Afternoon Day 5

My visit to Prince and his family was uplifting and very frustrating. As a romantic, the love story between the stepfather and Prince’s mom (you’ll have to ask us when we get home!) was just like my books. That this man embraced Prince, who also embraced this man as his father, with all his disabilities as his very own son is fantastic and very rare! They live in the poorest house I visited but welcomed us with open arms, big smiles, warm hugs. As a nurse, it was disheartening and very frustrating to learn of Prince’s disabilities and continuing struggles with them. Prince was born with no anus and incomplete urinary tract. If he were in the US, all of these would have been repaired! It made me so angry. However, chilling with Prince, one would not know of his struggles. He has a smile on his face, he is engaging, smart and so easy to love. We could all learn from Prince and his father!
